Instrucciones para autores / Instructions to authors

English version

– Estudios observacionales: STROBE (www.strobe-statement.org).

International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. Responsibilities in the Submission and Peer-Review Process

Cancer & Chemotherapy Reviews publishes, in Spanish and English, unedited review articles.

Any article sent for publication in the journal must meet the following requirements:

- In its preparation, follow the requirements indicated by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and whose agreements were published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors [Uniform Requirements for manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals. N Eng J Med 1997; 336 (4): 309-315], available online at the following link: http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/

- Adhere to the guidelines of the Network to Improve the Quality and Transparency of Health Research, the Equator Network (https://www.equator-network.org/). This network provides guidelines to design, perform and report different types of health studies. The guidelines to be followed according to the type of study are specified below, in the section "Types of Manuscripts".

The publication of a manuscript in Cancer & Chemotherapy Reviews implies the commitment from the authors, that it has not been previously published and that it is not pending to be published through any other means, whether printed or electronic. It must be scientific, original and unpublished.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RECEPTION OF MANUSCRIPTS

All manuscripts to be evaluated for publication in the journal should be sent electronically through the Online Submission Manuscript of the journal.

**To avoid duplications in the system, please refrain from creating a new request when resubmitting your modified files. You should continue using the same reference until your manuscript completes the editorial process.

We suggest that you divide your manuscript in the following sections to facilitate its management according to the requirements of the electronic platform:

- Summary (abstract).

- Key words: six for each language, ideally chosen based on the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and separated by a dot (.). See: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh

- Cover letter. It must include the title of the manuscript, and should summarize briefly the main findings of the research and its importance in the field of oncology. It should be made clear that the main author had access to the data and the analysis, and that the sponsors (if any) did not influence the results. It must state that the manuscript has not been published or sent to review to any other journal and that all the co-authors accepted the manuscript in its current condition and that they agree with its content. Finally, it must include a clear statement about potential defined and explained conflict of interests, and must be signed by the main author.

- Complete text of the work or manuscript, in Word, using Arial font of 12 points, double spaced. The first page should contain the title of the manuscript in Spanish and English, the names of the authors and their affiliations, postal address and email address of the corresponding author, and a statement on the potential conflicts of interest or absence thereof. The second page should contain the summary / abstract in both Spanish and English, as well as the key words. The body of the manuscript should be included from the third page, whose content will depend on the type of manuscript, as specified in the following section. References should be cited in the text in order of appearance with Arabic number in superscript and after punctuation. The format of the references must be Vancouver type, as specified below in the "References" section. The acronyms must be explained in their first appearance. Example: best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). At the end of the document, figure legends with progressive numbering should be included that explain the image completely without needing to read the body of the article.

- Tables (in Word format), duly cited in the text in order of appearance and identified; with title and numbered.

- Figures with title and progressive number: they can be graphics, photographs, x-rays, etc., and they will always be named as Figures (in .jpg or .eps format and with a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi).

To promote the transparency and quality of the research, the authors will be asked as an essential requirement to self-assess adherence to the relevant international guidelines according to the type of study:

– Clinical trials: CONSORT (http://www.consort-statement.org/). In addition, all trials must be registered in one of the international databases, and the corresponding registration number must always be indicated.

– Observational studies: STROBE (www.strobe-statement.org).

– Diagnostic tests: STARD (www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/stard/).

– For other types of studies, consult the guidelines on the EQUATOR initiative (http://www.equator-network.org/).

Personal communications and data not yet published should be cited directly in the text, in parentheses, including the name of author and the year; do not number them or include them in the list of references.

The abbreviations of the publications must correspond to those used in the Index Medicus. If a reference has more than six authors, list the names of. the first six authors followed by "et al.".
Below are examples of common references. It is necessary to respect the use of capital letters and punctuation. These indications apply equally to the electronic document:

- Article: Author(s) or organization. Article title. Journal title [as referenced in the Index Medicus] year; volume (number): initial and final page. Example: Felltkamp T, Ringrose J. Acute anterior uveitis and spondyloarthropathies. Curr Opin Rheumatol 1998;10:314-318.

AUTHOR'S RESPONSIBILITIES

Ethical responsibilities
Protection of people and animals. All studies that involve data, procedures, treatments, etc. in humans must have written authorization from an ethics committee of the participating institution, which must be attached to the manuscripts submitted on the platform, in addition to following the ethical guidelines of the World Medical Association and the Declaration of Helsinki. available at:
https://www.wma.net/. The authors must state in the section "Methods" that the procedures used in patients and controls have been carried out after obtaining an authorization by the ethics committee of their institution.

Confidentiality. The authors are responsible for following the protocols established by their respective health centers to access the data of the clinical files in order to carry out this type of scientific research, for which they must declare compliance with this requirement. The author has the obligation to guarantee that he is in possession of the written informed consent for the participation of each subject in the study. This document must be attached to the platform of the site. The authors should mention in the section "Methods" that the procedures performed on the study subjects were carried out after obtaining an informed consent.

Privacy. The author is also responsible for ensuring the right to privacy of patients by protecting their identity both in the text of the article and in the images. Do not use names, initials or hospital medical record numbers (or any other type of data irrelevant to the investigation that could identify the patient) or in the text or in the photographs; unless such information is essential for scientific purposes. In such cases, it may be included in the article provided that the patient or his or her parent or legal guardian provides written informed consent for its publication.

Funding. The authors must declare any funding sources.

Authorship. Cancer & Chemotherapy Reviews follows the requirements established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors for its authorship. The list of authors should include only those who have contributed intellectually to the development of the manuscript. Have helped in the collection of data or have participated in a technique, are not enough criteria to be listed as an author. In general, to appear as an author, the following requirements must be met:

- Participation in the conception and design, acquisition of data, analysis and interpretation of the study data that has resulted in the manuscript.

- Participation in the writing of the text and possible revisions thereof.

- Having approved the final version, which will be published.

- Having agreed to the accountability of all aspects of the study, to solve questions related to the accuracy and integrity of any subject related to it.

The correspondence author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors meet the requirements for authorship. Each author agrees that the corresponding author will be responsible for submitting the manuscript to the journal. By submitting this manuscript, each of the authors indicates that they have had full access to all the data in this study and assume full and public responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the data analysis. Once the manuscript is submitted, it will not be possible to make changes in the order and number of authors, so all issues related to authorship must be solved before sending the manuscript for the first time.

In case of collective authorship, the names of the writers or the ones responsible for the work followed by "and the Group ..." will be included when all the members of the group consider themselves co-authors of the work. If the name of the group is to be included, even if not all of its members are considered co-authors, the responsible authors will be mentioned followed by "on behalf of the Group ..." or "by the Group ...". In any case, the names and institutions of the members of the group will be included in an attachment at the end of the manuscript.

The authors will state and declare, both on the first page of the title and in the section Add / Edit / Remove / Author, that they have read and approved the manuscript; and that the requirements for authorship have been met.

The journal declines any responsibility on possible conflicts derived from the authorship of the works that are published in it.

Conflict of interest. There is a conflict of interest when the author had or has economic or personal relationships that could be considered as a cause of bias or influence the results of the study. The potential conflict of interest exists regardless of whether the authors consider that these relationships influence their scientific criteria or not. The authors will describe, in the cover letter and in the additional information section of the platform, any financial or personal relationship that they had or have, at the time of writing or sending the manuscript, with people or institutions and that could give rise to a conflict of interest related to the manuscript that is submitted for publication. What is declared will be recorded in the printed and digital journal.
Permit obtainment. The authors are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permissions to partially reproduce material (text, tables or figures) from other publications. These permits must be requested both from the author and from the publisher who has published said material. Publication permission is required by the institution that has funded the research.

The authors declare that the content of the manuscript is original and that it has not been previously published, nor has it been sent or submitted for consideration in any other publication format, either in its entirety or in any of its parts. The opposite constitutes a serious breach of scientific ethics. In the same way, authors who reproduce previously published materials (text, tables or figures) in their article are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permits to reproduce said materials in the journal. The authors must have obtained written authorization from both the author and the publisher who has published this material and send a copy to the journal.

Redundant or duplicate publication. The journal does not accept previously published material and will not consider for publication manuscripts that are sent simultaneously to other journals, nor redundant or duplicate publications, that is, articles that substantially overlap another already published, printed or electronic media. Authors must inform in the cover letter about previous postings or publications of the same work, in whole or in part, that may be considered redundant or duplicate publication. It is necessary to quote and include the reference(s) of these previous publications in the new manuscript. These restrictions are not applicable to published abstracts of communications, papers or conferences presented at national or international scientific meetings.

EDITORIAL PROCESS

The editorial process consists of 6 stages:

1. Reception of the manuscript (indeterminate, depending on whether the author meets the requirements): its objective is to verify that the manuscript complies with the specifications of these instructions for authors and that the submitted documentation is complete.

2. Initial editorial review (maximum 5 business days): its objective is to corroborate the relevance, timeliness, originality, and scientific contribution of the manuscript, as well as the methodological and statistical soundness of the study. At this time, it will be submitted to an electronic plagiarism detection system. Derived from this, a rejected opinion may be obtained, or it will be sent for review by peer researchers.

3. Review by peer researchers (maximum 30 business days): the opinion of at least two experts in the area in question will be obtained, who will evaluate the technical and methodological aspects of the investigation.

4. Editorial review (maximum 7 business days): its objective is to make a decision based on the opinion of peer reviewers. The opinion can be rejected, major changes, minor changes or accepted. In the case of major or minor changes, it will be submitted again for evaluation by the initial peer reviewers.

5. Final edition (6 weeks): its objective is the technical and linguistic edition (and translation), layout of galleys, DOI assignment, and correction by the author.

6. Advanced publication: All manuscripts will be published ahead of print on the journal's website as soon as they complete the editing process, until they are incorporated into a final issue of the journal.

PRINT PROOFS (PDF) OF ACCEPTED ARTICLES

The corresponding author will receive proofs of the article for revision and correction of terminology errors, or any other updates related to facts/figures. As the article will already have been edited according to the journal’s internal editorial guidelines, style corrections will not be accepted. The corresponding author will receive an email with the article in PDF format, on which they can leave their comments. Authors will need to have Adobe Reader (version 9, or a later version), downloadable for free). For other system requirements, please visit the Adobe website.

Alternatively, authors may list their corrections and submit them via email. Any major changes at this stage will be subject to the approval of the Editor. Authors should make sure to include all changes in a single email, as we cannot guarantee the inclusion of subsequent corrections.

The proof review is the responsibility of the author.
